Instructor: Lynne Mizera, Lynne's Art World. Have you ever wondered "What is Mixed Media and why it is so popular these days?" Well come find out with me, Lynne Mizera as I guide you into the world of mixed media this Fall using paints, mediums, inks and many more items in conjunction with stencils, stamps and collage materials to create backgrounds in your art journal. And then learn how to use these backgrounds to create your own art in your own Artistic Voice. With the focus on art play and product use this class is fun, low stress and full of creative energy.

Well come find out with me, Lynne Mizera as I guide you into the world of mixed media this Fall using paints, mediums, inks and many more items in conjunction with stencils, stamps and collage materials to create backgrounds in your art journal. And then learn how to use these backgrounds to create your own art in your own Artistic Voice. With the focus on art play and product use this class is fun, low stress and full of creative energy.

Knitting: First Sweater (FEE: $80)

Where: Fly in the Fibre 139 10th Ave. N. Creston, B.C.

Instructor: Carmen Ditzler, Heartfelt. The Easy Bulky One. Knit in a chunky weight yarn this is a perfect first, or second or...eighth sweater. This weight of yarn will knit up relatively quickly, so you can finish it and wear it this winter. A loose fit with dropped shoulders this is a sweater that will soon become a wardrobe staple. The class will walk you through measuring, swatching and calculating for a sweater in the size you intend and how to set yourself up for success. First class will include choosing yarn and needles, but bring what you have. Lots of support and fun!

Knitting Your First Sweater

Wet Felt to Needle Felt or Stitch (FEE: $40)

Instructor: Carmen Ditzler of Heartfelt. Learn the basics of wet felting! Make a piece of wet felt that will be suitable for then needle felting or stitching or both or neither! Supplies will be provided - bring two large towels. Beginners welcome.

The Art of Instruction (FEE: $50)

Where: Fly in the Fibre 139 10th Ave. N.Creston, B.C.

Instructor: Carmen Ditzler of Heartfelt. In this intro class you will learn how get started teaching or refine your process. We will cover how to set appropriate expectations, deal with perfection and fear, problem students, outlines, what to do when you hit a rough patch and more. This class will be specifically focused for artists of all mediums. Bring a lunch, notebook and pen.

October 25th 5:00pm - 7:00pm

Knitting: An Adorable River Otter (FEE: $50)

Where: Fly in the Fibre 139 10th Ave. N. Creston, B.C.

Instructor: Melissa Jackson. This class is 3 or 4 sessions. Thursdays, October 4, 11, 25 and November 1 if needed. Would you like to make an adorable, realistic-looking resident of the Creston Valley, the River Otter and at the same time learn or brush up on some advanced beginner skills. Whether a toy for a special child or a conversation piece this otter and its fish will delight. Techniques will be demonstrated and practiced, then applied to your otter. We will knit in sections over 3-4 sessions as needed.


Techniques used will be cable cast-on, Make one stitch right and left, knit front/back in one stitch, SSK (slip, slip, then knit into the back of stitches together) Knit 2 together, using double pointed needles to end up with circular knitting, picking up stitches, wrap and turn short row shaping, kitchener stitch (grafting) seaming, stuffing, embroidering eyes and nose.Cost includes the pattern, practice materials, small bits and pieces to finish the otter, instruction and any extra help needed, and the lovely space at Fly in the Fibre.


You will need to bring worsted weight yarn in two colours of your choice for your otter- main colour - approximately 150m or 75g (dark to medium brown or your choice)- secondary colour - approximately 40m or 25g (light brown, beige, white or your choice) note: if intended as a toy I would advise super wash wool or an acrylic blenddouble pointed needles (4) in size 3.5mm (US size 4) - if your needles are short,

Acrylic Pour on Pumpkins/Gourds (FEE: $35)

Instructor: Wendy Franz. Acrylic Pouring on Pumpkins, almost Halloween, time to start thinking of decorations, costumes and let's not forget everyones favourite... pumpkin carving. Want to try something different this year? Let's put some colour into Halloween with acrylic pouring on pumpkins. The sky is the limit for what you can create. Leave your pumpkins white, paint them black and orange or any colour combination. I will supply you with a decorative pumpkin, along with some real pumpkins or gourds and the paint. All you need to do is sign up for some colourful Halloween fun! Warning: acrylic pouring may become addictive! f

3D Needle Felt: Plump Pumpkin (FEE: $15)

Where: Fly in the Fibre 139 10th Ave. N. Creston, B.C.

Instructor: Leah Wilson, Amazing Felted Fibre Arts. Needle Felting the Plump Pumpkin: 3D 3 inch tall & 4 inch wide. A special seasonal project that reminds & teaches specific sculptural techniques. Using different deep & shallow stabbing, with the side-stab combination & "gentle brushing" to create something soft yet firm. Practicing to needle the ball shape into the plump pumpkin by dressing it with vibrant & soft to the touch colored wool. Finishing touches involve blending a few colors for effect, and making a stem with character & a wisp of a vine to attach. This is a time for people who have wet felted before but want to learn more or have help with a project. (max size of one table) There is no set project but surface design techniques will be demonstrated and felters will have my assistance with their felting challenges. (minimum 4 / maximum 8)

Learn to Acrylic Pour with Wendy Franz (FEE: $40)

Where: Fly in the Fibre139 10th Ave. N.Creston, B.C.

Instructor: Wendy Franz. Discover how much fun it can be to create your very own stunning acrylic paintings. In this super fun class you will learn the basics of how to get started with acrylic pouring, it's many techniques and even some of the secrets. Pouring, puddling, dripping are just some terms used for this unique medium. This technique uses gravity to move the paint, rather than a brush or palette knife. You will get to take home one mini canvas with easel, and 4 canvas for your very own mini canvas wall collage. You don't have to be an artist to enjoy this class...but be warned acrylic pouring may become addictive!

Socks! Two-at-a-Time from the Top-Down (FEE: $60)

Straight double pointed needles do not work for this technique. You must have knit at least one pair of socks before.
